What We Do

Every year, Spirit Quilts runs Project K: Kids Making Quilts for Kids. Children in the community help to make quilts for their underprivileged peers in many different ways. Older children help sew quilt tops (called “piecing”) while younger children help pick out fabrics for quilts. Some children write inspiring messages to be included on the quilt labels, and still others help raise money for Spirit Quilts by collecting spare change.

Throughout the year, JayaMae and her volunteers make individual prayer quilts, pillow cases, and wall hangings for those suffering from illness or injury. Many of the pillow cases that are sewn are donated to patients at Feather River Hospital (where JayaMae works in critical care) to brighten their beds.

In addition, Spirit Quilts raises money for other nonprofits and charitable causes by holding quilt raffles. To date, almost one thousand dollars has been raised for various organizations, including: Anand Charity, PAWS, and Handi-Riders.

Spirit Quilts runs off of donations from people like you. Please visit our You Can Help page to see ways you can contribute to Spirit Quilts. For monetary donations, we encourage you to donate online using the donate button below. You may also send us a check or money order.

Our Vision

To provide warmth and comfort to homeless and impoverished children, those stricken with disease, and others in need... one quilt at a time.

Our Mission

To instill in our youth a hunger for activism, an awareness of global issues, and the belief that one person can make a difference, while preserving and sharing the art of quilting.
